“The expo was a good venue for Pharex to highlight the advantages of generic medicines and let more Filipinos know that there are now affordable generic medicines that are as effective as branded medicines at less cost” explained Tomas Agana III president and CEO of Pharex HealthCorp.
He added that Pharex joined the expo as it has always been one with DOH in giving Filipinos access to quality and affordable healthcare. When DOH implemented the Generics Act in 1988, the company was the first to heed the call and since then, it has been at the forefront of bringing to Filipinos generic medicines that are high in quality but low in price.
The 1st Philippine Generics Expo was a two-day event conducted in line with implementation of the Cheaper Medicines Act, which mandates a maximum retail price (MRP) for essential drugs to make them affordable for Filipinos, and was held in celebration of the Generics Awareness Month.
During the expo, DOH hailed generic drugs and their manufacturers as unsung heroes in the fight against overly expensive branded medicines. With generic medicine companies like Pharex HealthCorp bravely competing against their innovator brands, Filipinos have greater access to high quality, affordable medicines.
