FAQs

This supplement contains 800 IU of vitamin D3.

Vitamin D has many forms. Cholecalciferol, otherwise known as D3, is one of them. Research suggests that vitamin D3 is more effective at raising Vitamin D blood levels compared to other forms of this nutrient.

Vitamin D is produced in our skin when it is exposed to sunlight. It can also come from the food that we eat.

Some known dietary sources of Vitamin D include fatty fish, fish oils, egg yolk, butter, and liver. However, it may be difficult to get adequate amounts of this vitamin from a diet alone.

Failure to get enough vitamin D can lead to a deficiency. Common symptoms of this health issue include:

  • Muscle weakness, aches, and/or cramps

  • Bone pain

  • Fatigue

  • Depression

People at risk for a vitamin D deficiency include:

  • People with very little sun exposure, especially people working from home

  • People who apply sunscreen or wear multiple layers of clothing that can prevent sun exposure and vitamin D production

  • People with darker skin, since a pigment called melanin can reduce the body’s ability to produce vitamin D from the sun

  • Older people, since aging skin can mean less vitamin D production from the sun

  • People taking medications like:

    • Steroid corticosteroids, since it can reduce calcium absorption and decrease vitamin D metabolism

    • Weight-loss drugs with orlistat and cholesterol-lowering drugs with cholestyramine, as both may reduce absorption of vitamin D and other fat-soluble vitamins

    • Phenobarbital and phenytoin or antiepileptic drugs, as these may interfere with vitamin D and calcium absorption

The recommended daily intake of Vitamin D for adult Filipinos is at 400 IU. For senior citizens, it’s higher at 600 IU.

However, because of the current pandemic, you may need to get additional doses of vitamin D to improve your immune system and gain extra protection against illnesses and diseases.

It’s best to take at least one (1) capsule of Pharex D-Vit 800 orally once a day. Ideally, take the capsule with water after a meal. Although you can take it with or without food.
