Product Information

Why Maintaining Vitamin D Levels Is Important The sad reality is that many adults do not pay attention to their vitamin D levels. As a result, as many as 1 billion people worldwide now have a vitamin D deficiency.16 In the Philippines, the numbers aren’t looking bright either, as 48.7% of Filipino adults either have a vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency.9 Some of the negative consequences of a vitamin D deficiency include:

  • Higher risk of obesity17
  • Diabetes17
  • Symptoms like muscle weakness, decreased muscle mass, muscle and bone pain, muscle twitches or spasms, tingling sensations in the hands or feet, and/or increased pain sensitivity11
  • Linked to a higher risk for falls and muscle dysfunction among seniors17
  • Linked to a higher risk for cognitive decline18
  • Linked to a higher risk for ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction, and early deaths19
The good news is that you can lower your risk for these complications with the help of adequate sun exposure (exposure of 5% of the skin on the body for at least 20 minutes twice a week to receive 430 IU of vitamin D5) and intake of vitamin D supplements. Initial research has shown that taking a vitamin D capsule may help:

  • Boost skeletal health in osteoporosis patients and reduce fracture risk among elderly and vitamin D-deficient individuals, when combined with calcium supplements17
  • Promote better insulin sensitivity20
  • Reduce the risk of all-cause and cardiovascular-related death in patients with chronic kidney disease not requiring dialysis, and people with end-stage renal disease requiring dialysis21
Don’t let a vitamin D deficiency rain on your parade! Talk to your doctor about the benefits of a supplement like Pharex® D-Vit 800 today.

FAQ

This supplement contains 800 IU of vitamin D3.

Vitamin D has many forms. Cholecalciferol, otherwise known as D3, is one of them. Research suggests that vitamin D3 is more effective at raising Vitamin D blood levels compared to other forms of this nutrient.

Vitamin D is produced in our skin when it is exposed to sunlight. It can also come from the food that we eat.

Some known dietary sources of Vitamin D include fatty fish, fish oils, egg yolk, butter, and liver. However, it may be difficult to get adequate amounts of this vitamin from a diet alone.

Failure to get enough vitamin D can lead to a deficiency. Common symptoms of this health issue include:

  • Muscle weakness, aches, and/or cramps

  • Bone pain

  • Fatigue

  • Depression

People at risk for a vitamin D deficiency include:

  • People with very little sun exposure, especially people working from home

  • People who apply sunscreen or wear multiple layers of clothing that can prevent sun exposure and vitamin D production

  • People with darker skin, since a pigment called melanin can reduce the body’s ability to produce vitamin D from the sun

  • Older people, since aging skin can mean less vitamin D production from the sun

  • People taking medications like:

    • Steroid corticosteroids, since it can reduce calcium absorption and decrease vitamin D metabolism

    • Weight-loss drugs with orlistat and cholesterol-lowering drugs as both may reduce absorption of vitamin D and other fat-soluble vitamins.

    • Antiepileptic drugs as these may interfere with vitamin D and calcium absoprtion.

The recommended daily intake of Vitamin D for adult Filipinos is at 400 IU. For senior citizens, it’s higher at 600 IU.

In 1987, Pharex then shifted to marketing and distributing generic products, while appointing Metro Drug as its exclusive brand distributor. This move proved to be timely because of the passing of the Generics Act of 1988. Many successful years followed, and in 2016, Pharex was acquired by RiteMED Inc.
