Being healthy doesn’t only refer to the state of the human body. As defined by the World Health Organization, “health” is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. All these aspects of your well-being impact one another, so they require your utmost attention and care.
Here are a few lifestyle hacks that you can adapt to improve your overall well-being and get the most out of life.
1.Stretch those muscles
While it may be difficult to incorporate exercise into your morning routine, make it a habit to jumpstart your day with a few minutes of stretching.
There are several benefits that come with stretching: It improves the body’s flexibility. Stretching loosens up the muscles and doing this regularly will develop muscle flexibility. This will prevent you from getting severe injuries. it also increases blood flow and helps boost energy.
After stretching, you will feel energized and up for action. Doing this in the morning will help prevent you from feeling easily exhausted throughout the day.
Stretching before going to bed can also relieve tension in the body and help you fall asleep faster.
No matter how busy you may be, don’t forget that walking is a great exercise that provides many health benefits. Walking has proven to improve blood circulation, mood, weight, and heart health.
If your workplace is about 10 to 15 minutes away, consider taking a walk to work instead of commuting or hitching a ride. Other activities to help you get moving include taking the stairs as much as possible.
A balanced diet will help you maintain mental and physical health. Eat food that are rich in vitamins and minerals such as meat, vegetables, and fruits. After all, the most effective way the body can absorb and store nutrients is through eating healthy food.
Other benefits of a healthy diet include better management of your weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, mood, and even your ability to handle stress.
Drink plenty of water. No matter how hard it is, try to stay away from carbonated, sugary drinks, caffeine, and alcohol. These may cause the body to lose more fluids and lead to dehydration.
Taking an adequate amount of water daily will help detoxify your body and increase blood flow, promoting a healthier heart. Moreover, water keeps your skin hydrated and moisturized as well. This way, it slows down the aging of your skin. You will look brighter and glowing!
Aside from water, you can also ensure your body is hydrated by eating fruits and vegetables that have high water properties like watermelon, lettuce, and tomato.
5.Connect with people
Humans are social animals, thus connecting with other people and building relationships lend positive effects on your mental health.
People who have stronger emotional support tend to be happier. Now, do your best to make time for your family and friends despite your busy schedule.
When stress seems to be taking its toll on you, one way to help relieve it is through meditation. Yoga is a good example of a meditation activity. Practicing yoga has been proven to improve stress management, weight control, and overall mental health. Yoga is especially helpful to get better sleep. People who regularly do yoga fall asleep easier and wake up feeling refreshed and energized.
Aside from yoga, learning proper deep breathing can also help calm you down and lower your resting heart rate.
7.Go to bed early
The body cannot function well if it doesn’t get enough sleep. Lack of sleep makes the body prone to the risks of severe heart conditions.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, the ideal bedtime should be between 8:00 PM and 12:00 MN. Getting enough sleep is important since sleep deprivation could lead to several health problems such as heart disease and stroke.
8.Take a vitamin E supplement
A nutrient that primarily functions to improve your overall well-being is vitamin E. Vitamin E has antioxidant properties that help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. This vitamin also boosts the immune system that works to defend the body from bacteria and viruses. In addition, taking vitamin E will help protect the skin from aging, inflammation, and sun damage.
